Recently, the Yanling No. 2 Tunnel of the Zhuzhou Section of the G1517 Putian Expressway in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province officially launched the tunnel following lighting intelligent dimming energy-saving system to promote the green and low-carbon development of the expressway.
The system applies laser radar, video detection and real-time control technology, and uses intelligent control equipment and scientific tunnel lighting dimming technology to achieve “suitable lighting, following lighting, and scientific lighting”, and is especially suitable for tunnels with long lengths and small traffic flow.
After the tunnel following lighting control system is turned on, it detects real-time changing factors of incoming vehicles and collects vehicle driving data, so as to conduct real-time operation management of tunnel lighting and achieve segmented independent control. When no vehicles are passing through, the system reduces the lighting brightness to a minimum level; when vehicles are passing through, the tunnel lighting equipment follows the vehicle’s driving trajectory and dims the light in sections, and the brightness gradually returns to the original standard level. When equipment fails or an emergency event such as a vehicle accident occurs in the tunnel, the tunnel on-site emergency control system is activated, instantly obtains interruption or abnormal signals, and controls the working status of the lighting system to adjust to the fully-on state of the lamps to ensure the safety of driving in the tunnel.
It has been calculated that since the trial operation of the system, it has saved nearly 3,007 kilowatt hours of electricity, reduced waste of electricity and lowered operating costs. In the next stage, Zhuzhou Branch will further promote the idea of low-carbon and environmentally friendly highways, closely focus on the dual carbon goals, tap potential in mechanical and electrical operation and maintenance, energy saving and consumption reduction, and promote the high-quality development of Hunan’s highways.
